Children

Grand Villa Manzanillo loves children; a place for families to reunion. Villa Manzanillo can be dangerous to young children, there are many steps and drop-offs, like into the billiards room. We have child proof gates on the indoor/outdoor pool and other dangerous areas, but you must watch your children very carefully, as we would feel very bad if there were an accident. We have sitters, and child followers available that know every hiding place.

Taxi

The Taxi stand is located about 2 miles away. You can call a taxi from here by dialing 333-0355 and say "Taxi por favor, loma bonita, calle Francia Viente Cuatro Casa con dos palapas". Most of them know our house or you can walk to the main road and stop any taxi or catch a bus. For a suburban with a driver, call 334-0788 or for an airport suburban or taxi call 333-1999. Hectours ground services does transportation and tours for sport fishing, golf and adventure tours, that number is 333-1707.

Groceries, Wine & Liquor

Commercial Mexicana is about 10 minutes by car from the house. It has almost everything that an American grocery store would have. It is very modern and clean. The only thing we suggest that you do not purchase here is the beef, because it is tough. The pork and chicken are okay. We like to buy meat at the local butcher shop, called C & H Carnicerea. It is very hard to find, but Maria knows where it is and can take you there or go there for you. They have prime cuts of beef, including T-bones rib eyes, whole bone prime ribs etc., pork, and chicken. For the freshest seafood your best bet is the fish market in Santiago Square. Go early in the morning, as that is when the fish is freshest. The fish store with the glass dividers has the imported giant prawns. Also at the market in Santiago Square are fresh vegetables. On Saturdays, they close the streets for the local market. A wonderful shopping experience. For other shopping places, you can visit the artesian markets on the beach or check out the stores in the mall near Commercial Mexicana.

Wine and Liquor can be purchased in Commercial Mexicana or La Vianda. The best prices and selections are found at La Vianda. It is about 10 minutes from the house towards the airport across from the entrance to Club Santiago; they also sell an English Newspaper.

Nightlife

Colima Bay Café is a great place to dance to rock and roll music after about 9:00. You can dance on the tables or swing above the dance floor in a hammock swing. They have great refreshments and ok food.

Carlos & Charlies next to the Guadalajara Grill is open on the weekends as late as they have customers. They open about 9:00 and have great music to dance to.

Toscana Restaurant is another place that you can dance by the ocean. The music there starts about 9:00 and there food is wonderful.

There are several other discos in town, Kitzas, Bar de Felix, Vogue or Tropigala; they have great Mexican dance music.

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling

Underwater Scuba is the best place to call for this. They will teach you how to scuba dive in a swimming pool and then take you on a dive in the ocean on the next day. You can also rent equipment if you are a certified diver. Call for more information, they speak English. Susan Dearing is the owner, the phone number is 333-0642. From USA 011-52-333-30642.

Boat Rentals

If you are interested in renting a boat for cruising or fishing, you can call Sam and Marilyn Short at 335-0605, from USA 011-52-333-50605, their boats are safe, but less the luxurious, they also speak English. Their price begins at $185.00 for 5 hours on a 26’ cruiser. Our preference is to go to Las Hadas Marina and walk around and look for a boat crew that is cleaning or talk to the harbormaster and find a boat this way. Las Hadas is gated, but just say "marina se renta barco" and they will normally let you in. You want to set this up the day before you are interested in going out. If the boat is nice and about 38 feet or more you can make offer starting at $250.00 US for about 6-8 hours. These boats rent for $400.00 to $1,000.00 USD per day or more. If you just want to go for a boat ride, you can walk along the beach towards the airport about 2 miles to the very end of the beach. There you can rent a "ponga" for about $20 to $30 per hour for a sightseeing tour or they may also have fishing poles on board so you can fish.

Medical

Dr Gilberto Granados has been on call for 3 years, from wedding certificates of health to colds, and x-rays. Dr Granados is the chief doctor at an area hospital, and has been here at a moments notice when needed. Dr. Jorge Alvarado, speaks English and has a clinic here, and He will make house calls for a very reasonable rate. Should you need him call 9-334-0385 or 9-333-3047. You can call him 24 hours a day. If you are having continuous problems, ask him for his cell number so you can reach him anytime.
