Manzanillo, Colima

Two of the best restaurants in the Manzanillo Hotel Zone are Toscana Ristorante and
La Pergola, both on Blvd. Miguel de la Madrid, as are
PortoFino (Italian fare) and Colima Bay Cafe (also a nite club that jumps
after 10PM). Toscana is run by a French couple, Jean Francois Laroche and
Michele Laugeri Giraud and is known for consistently good food and service.
Music after 8:00. La Pergola has a German chef who creats daily
specialties. There are also other good restaurants in Las Brisas such as El
Rincon Espanol and El Caribi, owned by the Las Hadas golf pro.
Colima Bay Café
Just past Portofino is the Colima Bay Cafe. This was once part of the Carlos
and Charlie's it is still owned and operated by the original manger and
owner. The food is very good Mexican style and the service is professional. A
fun place and late at night the DJ cranks up the volume so if you want to go
for conversation go early or even better go for lunch.
This place is right on
the beach and cooled by ocean breezes a perfect place for a great Mexican
lunch. Next door to the Colima Bay Cafe is the Intento Galleria, owned by
Maria Corona, who also owns the restaurant. The gallery features the works of
many local, regional and national Mexican artists.

Carlos & Charlies next to the Guadalajara Grill is open on the weekends as late as they have customers. They open about 9:00 and have great music to dance to.

Night Life
Nightclub Scene Manzanillo provides excellent and varied night life for
visitors. As with most night clubs on Mexico's coasts, they don't stop till
the sun comes up! Some night clubs charge an all inclusive cover fee; some
a smaller cover and drinks on top. Drinks are served all night - don't
even consider going to a nightclub before 11pm. Nightclubs keep going all
morning and most people will start to leave between 5 and 7 am.
VOG DISCO & VOG BAR:
Two places, same owner. Dance to a
throbbing beat in the disco. Opens at 10 p.m. and the music goes till 3 a.m. Light show at
midnight. Probably the nicest disco in town, but usually frequented by the
very young. Cover charge. Men must wear long pants. No T-shirts or shorts
allowed. The bar next door has pool tables. Sometimes on weekends it's hard to get a table. Not many women play pool here. (tel.

BAR DE FELIX: Next door to Vog is this bar, with more of a Mexican flair.
Also older men and women frequent this place. Cheaper prices, no cover
(except on holidays). Opens about 9 p.m., but no one arrives until much
later. (tel. 314/334-1444).
SEXY BAR: You guessed it. Another strip bar similar to
Fantasy, featuring
girls doing the Mexican bump and grind.
FANTASY: Nude dancing, table and lap dancing, and other adult entertainment.
Each step costs a little more. Tips should be carefully tucked into the
ladies' G-string. No touching the girls no matter how they touch you. For an
additional fee you can choose one of the dancers
and take her to one of the rooms in the back for your "private fantasy." Adult
entertainment for men, but women are welcome if they're escorted.
*There are several other discos in town, Kitzas, Bar de Felix, Vogue or Tropigala; they have great Mexican dance music.
